The Simchat Torah Project

October 8, 2024 in Israel

Hazzan Fradkin carries one of the Torahs with the cover from the Simchat Torah projectBeth El took part in the Jewish world’s one-year commemorations of October 7, 2023 – both in its public mourning and in its dancing. Our clergy and members gathered with thousands in downtown Washington, DC at The Anthem. Synagogues around the world also participated in a special campaign to receive a Torah cover with the name of one of the victims or fallen soldiers adorning the scroll.  Beth El collected funds to purchase two covers.

As we continue to hold our Torah scrolls high, we will not forget what happened on Simchat Torah last year, and honor the victims by pushing ourselves to dispel the darkness with light. Our enemies will not prevail over us, and we will never allow them to achieve their goal of stealing from us our day of joy.

In this way, The Simchat Torah Project serves as a beacon of our resilience, our invocation of hope in the face of tragedy, and our survival as Jews.
