Book Chat: Meet Author Steven Ujifusa

Meet historian-author Steven Ujifusa via Zoom as he introduces his acclaimed new book, The Last Ships from Hamburg: Business, Rivalry, and the Race to Save Russia’s Jews on the Eve of World War I. Ujifusa‘s book is unique in that it focuses on the essential – and fascinating – role played by shipping and business titans in the epic tale of Eastern European Jewish immigration to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Moreover, Ujifusa‘s look at the national debate on immigration in the early 1900s illuminates today’s debate on immigration in unexpected ways.
