September 15 at 11:00 am

Join us for an in-person discussion at Beth El of The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, a thrilling novel blending historical fiction and fantasy, set in 16th century Spain. What happened to the Jews forced to become conversos (converts to Catholicism) who remained in Spain after the mass expulsion of 1492? In The Familiar, Bardugo imagines an answer to this question, provoked by her curiosity about the fate of some of her own family members.

The novel encompasses themes related to the upcoming High Holidays – tolerance and intolerance, the masks we wear, the constraints we feel, and what we owe to others versus ourselves.

Co-sponsored by the Library Committee, the Women of Beth El, and Men’s Club.
