Beth El is going back to the movies! Join your Beth El community for opening night of Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round, a JxJ* movie playing at the Edlavitch DCJCC, followed by a conversation with director Ilana Trachtman.
The movie tells the story of five Black students who rode a segregated carousel in 1960, igniting one of the earliest organized interracial civil rights protests in U.S. history. Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round is the untold story of the Jews they marched with, Nazis they provoked, Congressmen they inspired, and Civil Rights leaders they became. When the white community near Glen Echo Amusement Park joined the Black students in picketing, an extraordinary history-making partnership was born.
As we head into the month of Elul, we look forward to attending this movie that ties into our Middah of the Month of Teshuvah/Repentance. As Jews, we have consistently engaged in the pursuit of justice and equality. Purchase your tickets for the September 15 showing of Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round by September 3 – before they sell out!
*This movie is co-presented with the EDCJCC’s Center for Social Responsibility.
